The Moments Between

It’s the moments between where I’ve struggled

Feeling as if I'm an inch below the waterline

Able to see the breath I need but not able to reach it

The harder I fight for air, the further away it feels

I've failed you over and again by not escaping my loneliness

You're too young for me tell you now, so I struggle in secret

In these moments between our time together

Especially when the exhaustion takes hold, you should know

I will keep working, I will keep fighting, finding the light

My promise to you has become something new

Not only be the father you deserve when we are together

But also in the moments in between
