Daybreak

And then one morning things were different

As if the sunrise brought a whole new world

And as I wiped the sleep from my eyes I whispered

How could I have forgotten about the morning air

Or the way the sun warms my face while squinting my eyes

All the while burning off the legacy of the night

Like walking through the halls of my childhood schoolhouse

I’ve seen this place before but the memory doesn’t calm me

It feels both like home and something new

Nostalgic and at the same time like a space I've yet to be

But for today I put one foot in front of the other

Mind racing, no rest, eager for the next daybreak
